After shooting some very romantic wedding portraits over at Union Station in Washington, DC, this image was captured of the bride and groom just enjoying a moment together on their way to the fountain in Senate Park to take a few more bridal party images right before sunset during the golden hour. The bride and groom had a blast being congratulated from all the passerbys traveling through the area and on their way over to Union Station. You could hear car horns honking everywhere as we walked from location to location in pursuit of the perfect wedding portrait.
While it's easy enough to pose a couple for that classic bridal portrait, it's important for me to create for our brides and grooms an image that is natural and capture the couple at their absolute candid best on their wedding day. The smiles are more genuine and the emotions are pure joy. This is the feeling I want them to revisit every single time they look at their wedding photos and not just think about when their photographer posed them into some awkward stance that shows little emotion. Wedding photography should be so much more than that since along with their companion wedding album, these will be their first family heirlooms of the new family they had just began.
I think what really makes this image work, besides having a really great couple as the subject, is that beautiful golden glow coming from behind the couple backlighting them as they made their way to the fountain for the rest of the portraits. It helps to create this fairytale look that they just loved when they first saw it.
This wedding was later featured in Premier Bride magazine for the Virginia and D.C. area in January 2017.
